THE ALPE DI SIUSI, EUROPE’S LARGEST HIGH-ALTITUDE ALPINE PLATEAU
The Alpe di Siusi (Mont Sëuc in Ladin), Europe’s largest high-altitude plateau, is located in the heart of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 26th June 2009. This plateau, surrounded by the South Tyrolean Dolomites, is 33 km from Bolzano, above the famous villages of Siusi allo Sciliar and Castelrotto. The Alpina Dolomites is located in Compatsch (1860 m), at the far western end of the plateau.
The Alpe di Siusi is connected to Siusi by a modern cableway with automatic hook-up and a regular bus line. Another cableway goes to Ortisei, in Val Gardena. Cars can access the Alpe di Siusi only during the evening and at night (except for departing or arriving guests).
Flora and fauna
Europe's most beautiful and largest high-altitude Alpine meadow with its breathtaking views and charming nature is waiting for you. Every year, between May and July, nature blossoms yet again in a magnificent spectacle that's a jubilation of shapes, scents and colours that seems to have been created by an artist or conjured up by a sorcerer.
The incomparable beauty and incredible variety of Alpe di Siusi's flora and fauna are truly unique around the world. The irresistible charm of such a special environment will entice you to go hiking, climbing or just relax, admiring the splendour of the surrounding natural wonderland. |
